Dr. Teresa Lynn is a Post Doctoral Researcher at the ADAPT Centre, Dublin City University. She completed her PhD through a cotutelle agreement between Dublin City University (Ireland) and Macquarie University Sydney (Australia), investigating parsing of the Irish language. She built the first syntactically-annotated corpus (treebank) for Irish and with that, trained the first statistical computational parsing models for Irish. Her research is the foundation for the development of Natural Language Processing applications such as Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) systems and Hybrid English – Irish machine translation systems. Teresa was a Fulbright-Enterprise Ireland Awardee in 2014-2015. Teresa’s talk will discuss the use of the Irish language on Twitter and the importance of social media for minority language.
